RatTrap.net exists to answer one stressful question well: there's a rat — now what? We publish trap reviews and step-by-step control guides with no filler, no scare tactics, and no products we wouldn't use ourselves.
How we evaluate traps
Every recommendation is scored on the same four criteria:
- Kill speed and humaneness. A trap that kills in seconds is effective and humane. Anything that maims, holds, or kills slowly gets flagged, whatever its price.
- Trigger reliability. We look at misfire rates, bait-theft complaints, and whether the trigger fires at realistic rat approach angles — the difference between a catch and an educated, trap-shy rat.
- Durability and reusability. Rat control is a numbers game; traps that survive dozens of catches and a wash change the economics.
- Aggregated owner outcomes. We read across thousands of verified buyer reports looking for patterns — the failure modes that only show up at scale, like humidity killing electronic traps or springs weakening after a season.
When a popular product doesn't hold up — ultrasonic repellers, glue boards for rats, bargain-bin snap traps — we say so directly, even though those pages earn nothing.
